Can My 52-Year-Old Unmarried Sister Be Added as a Dependent Under My ESI Coverage?

hrd@forbescampbell.com
Sir, I am an ESI insured person from 2015 till now. At present, I am working on a contract. I am a 62-year-old married person. My parents are deceased. I have a younger sister who is 52 years old, unmarried, and fully dependent on me. She lives with me in my house and does not work anywhere as she did not receive an education.

I would like to know if her name can be included in ESI as my dependent. Please advise.

Thank you.

Family Dependency and ESI Benefits

In the case of an unmarried employee (insured person) whose father and mother are not alive, a minor brother and sister wholly dependent on the employee shall come under the scope of the family. However, a sister aged 52 shall not become a member of the family for ESI medical benefits. At the same time, for receiving dependent benefits due to the death of an insured, an unmarried sister seems to be a dependent.
