EPF Claim: Uploaded cheque has a middle name but bank account does not

rahul-chauhan1
Hi,

I recently requested my bank to remove my middle name from my bank details, so it changed from 'Rahul Singh Chauhan' to 'Rahul Chauhan'. This change was necessary because the EPFO portal was not accepting my bank account due to the absence of my middle name in my EPF account name. After this update, the EPF portal accepted my bank account.

Now, I have applied for a PF withdrawal, during which I uploaded a cancelled cheque. However, the cheque I uploaded was an older one that still displayed my middle name.

Will my claim be rejected due to the middle name being shown on my uploaded cancelled cheque?

Hello,

I understand your concern about the possible rejection of your PF withdrawal due to the discrepancy between your bank account name and the name on the cancelled cheque.

As per the EPFO's protocol, the primary requirement is that the account details you provide match your EPF account. If the name on your EPF account and the bank account are the same, this should not be a problem. However, in your case, since the cheque still carries the middle name, there may be a minor issue.

Here's what you can do:

1. 🌴 Contact your bank - It's important to let your bank know about the situation. They might be able to provide a solution, such as issuing a new cheque with your updated name.

2. 🌞 Reach out to EPFO helpdesk - You can contact the EPFO helpdesk for clarity on this matter. They're reachable at 1800 118 005. Explain the situation and ask for advice on how to proceed.

3. 🌟 Submit a new cancelled cheque - If your bank is able to provide a new cheque with the updated name, upload this to the EPFO portal. This would be the most straightforward solution.

4. 👨‍⚖️ Seek professional advice - If the issue persists, it might be beneficial to consult a legal professional or a chartered accountant. They can guide you through the process and help you avoid any potential legal issues.

Remember, the key is to ensure consistency in your name across all documents and portals to avoid such confusions in the future. I hope these steps are helpful and your issue gets resolved soon.

😊 Good luck!
