Hi,
In our company, we have only 12 days of sick leave with no casual leaves. Employees are allowed to take Casual Paid leaves only after working for 1 year, which is 18 days in a year.
Management's Observation on Sick Leave Usage
Our management noticed people taking sick leave for casual reasons on Monday and Friday. Also, when a public holiday falls on Monday or Friday, they apply for sick leave on the previous day or after the public holiday to create a long weekend.
Policy Change: Medical Records Requirement
As a result, management has decided to request medical records even for one-day sick leave.
Questions for Discussion
1. Is it legal to ask for a medical certificate for one day?
2. How can we prevent employees from misusing sick leave for casual reasons during weekends or public holidays?
