Self-Managed Teams: Has Anyone Successfully Implemented This in Their Company?

I would like to implement the SMT concept in my company, i.e., Self-Managed Team concept. Has anybody implemented this system in their company? If so, could you please send some details of the same? Its effectiveness, its process, etc. It's urgent. Please help.
