Can I Pursue a Career in AutoCAD with One Eye? Seeking Advice on Screen Work and Eye Health

Hello everyone,

My one eye is disabled, and I am always worried about my good eye. I have fewer career options; that's why I want to work in computer-based designing fields like CADD and AutoCAD. I would be working 8 to 12 hours per day, but I always fear for my good eye. I am confused if a one-eyed person can work on a screen for a long time. Will my one good eye be able to work a lifetime? Will I not become blind due to long screen work?

The doctor told me I should not go for depth perception work. Is AutoCAD designing related to depth perception? Please clear any doubts, especially the last one.

Thank you. I am waiting for your experience and answers.

Hi, you should consult a good doctor (ophthalmologist) who will be able to give you the right answer.

If you are planning to work in the design field using AutoCAD or any other software, you will be expected to spend more time on the system due to the nature of work requirements. Whether it will affect your eyes or not needs to be consulted with a good eye doctor.

Hello sir, I have visited many times for consulting on this topic. They told me that I can work on the computer for long periods without facing any problems. However, I have doubts about the impact on my eyes.

Hi, in that case, you can try for a design job. Probably after joining, if you do not face any discomfort, you may continue. Also, go for periodic eye check-ups to ascertain any impact due to long usage of computers. You can also try some eye protector screens for computers, which will be available in shops.

My general advice is, instead of staring at the computer continuously, give yourself some breaks at frequent intervals, which will safeguard your eyes.
