Can Comp Off Leave Be Used for Sick Leave? Seeking Clarification from Peers

Dear All,

Can comp off leave be applicable for sick leave or not? Please clarify.

Hi, technically speaking, for sickness, only sick leave should be utilized. However, to clear accumulated compensatory off (comp off) or in the absence of sick leave, an employee may be allowed to use comp off leave for sickness as well (for 1 or 2 days).

Hi Lavnya,

"Comp off" or compensatory off is typically granted as a form of compensation for employees who have worked beyond their regular working hours or on holidays. It is meant to acknowledge and reward the extra effort put in by the employee.

Sick leave, on the other hand, is granted when an employee is unable to perform their duties due to illness or injury. It is not typically associated with extra work or overtime.

Therefore, comp off leave is generally not applicable for sick leave. Compensatory leave is usually granted for situations where an employee has worked extra hours or on holidays, and the employer wishes to provide time off in lieu of this additional effort. Sick leave is a separate category meant to address health-related issues, and it usually has its own policies and procedures.

Thanks

If your company's management is not providing any sick leave or does not have any sick leave policy, you can grant compensatory time off to eligible staff for sickness.
