Notice Period Dilemma: Can My Company Extend It to 2 Months for a Senior Role?

hr-kum-kang-kind
The notice period of 1 month is mentioned in the appointment letter. The company is requiring a 2-month notice period for this senior position. Is the company allowed to do that?

Actually, it is not allowed, and a company should not force anyone to serve notice unless there is mutual agreement and a signed document. If the relationship between the employer and the departing employee is very good, then serving a two-month notice period is acceptable only if both parties agree.

Ninety percent of employees leave organizations because they are unhappy. Naturally, if they are leaving, they won't wait for a two-month notice period.

Hi, by virtue of a contract extension, it may not be required. However, considering the role and responsibilities, the employee should also negotiate with the employer and support the employer wherever possible. Just sticking to the appointment terms is not good for senior individuals.
