How Can Employers Prevent Employees from Absconding Without Notice After Payday?

HR Aspirant1
Dear Sir/Madam,

Please advise on what actions can be taken if an employee absconds from the job without serving any notice period or completing a handover of duties. Recently, an employee in our company absconded just three days after receiving his salary. As he was not a member of the EPF, we were unable to warn him about potential consequences related to that or reverse the credited salary. Despite our emails warning him to return and delegate his tasks to another colleague before leaving, he failed to respond. We also informed him about the implications of not receiving his relieving and experience letters, yet he did not show up.

As an employer, what precautions can we implement to prevent such incidents in the future?

Thank you.

Hi, It has become a common practice among many employees to abscond without providing any information after their salary is credited. The only action you can take is to withhold their Full and Final Settlement (FFS) and relieving letter. Furthermore, in the case of future Background Verification (BGV), you can inform about their failure to report without any prior information.

If the number of incidents where employees fail to report is high, it is essential to identify the root cause, whether it is related to environmental factors or salary issues.
