Can My BPO Really Blacklist Me Forever for Leaving to Care for My Sick Grandmother?

Jayanth Rai
Hi, I was an employee in a BPO for almost one month. I was in a transition period when suddenly my grandmother fell really sick, and I had to be there with her 24/7. Once I informed my manager about my situation, they refused to understand and grant me two weeks of leave as I had to relocate to Chennai to take care of her. I was called "immature" by the manager.

Yet, I tried to convince them that I was not lying. They threatened me by saying they would not help me with my salary and would not accept my resignation. They mentioned they would ensure my termination and blacklist me forever, making it difficult for me to find or join any other MNC in the future, even if I want to apply. I am really worried about my career. Can someone please help me and let me know if it's possible that they blacklist me forever?

Hi, in case of future background verification (BGV) from your employer, they may provide negative feedback and may not consider you for rehire, which is often referred to as blacklisting.

At times, neither side can be blamed for this outcome. When you apply for a new job, it's important to properly explain the situation. Otherwise, do not view this as the end of your career.
