Whether lab report can be accepted as a document for sick leave?

If lab report is signed by a qualified Doctor (Pathologist) with his/her signature & seal,
this can be considered as a supporting document for availing sick leave.

Hi,

What was test took by the employee ? that counts. Even blood group can be identified through blood test which is also a Lab report ! . If the employee is suffered from Malaria/dengue submits lab report as positive then that is a valid report can be considered genuine.

Also date of Report should match the period of absence.

The lab report can not be accepted as a document for sick leave because that report doesn't speak about sickness. The reports are the indicator but does not speak about the kind of ailment one suffer from. The doctors prescription is mandatory for the sick leave.

Mr. Prsbhat,

Nowadays one can easily get a Doctor certificate by paying Rs.100-. That is the reason lab reports are insisted (if lab services is availed).

Mr Lakshmi Narayanan,
Lab report too are available cheaply. The matter about sickness only can be determined by a doctor and doctor advises for lab test to know the cause of sickness and it's severity. The common fever and body pain, sprain in any joint can't be determined by the lab report. Therefore, doctor prescription as well lab report both are required for the leave of longer period. Here, the poster didn't speak of the reasons of raising the issue of lab report.

Yes agreed but % is very less. Investigation reports supported with Doctor 's note are highly recommended. Mere prescription are not trustworthy issued by General Practitioners as per my assessment.

A well formatted Lab Report duly signed and sealed by a Pathology Doctor itself is a bonafide document, as it contains not only detailes of tests carried out and its results, but also information about the consultant doctor and his diagnosis about the patient, apart from patient's details and treatment starting date. Thus, it can be taken as a valid document.

Anyhow, on resuming duty, after sick leve/treatment, person has to produce a medical fitness certificate also.

A case study:
In my previous company one 20 bed Hospital was there. A particular employee asked for 2days sick leave every month. As per company rule a non-executive staffs are eligible for 7days sick leave and 2days half pay leave. Every calender year that particular employee spent CL & EL too for the sickness.Once called the doctor to know what are the reasons every month one goes sick. The doctor said that the particular employee having painful monthly period(sever pain in lower abdomen, waist and vomiting) sometimes that employee gets admitted to hospital too.

It appears to me that the requirement of a medical certificate connected with the sick leave of an employee is a bonafide document of medical examination conducted by a qualified medical practioner indicating the specific sickness and the extent of the leave of absence from employment required. Whereas a lab report is a supporting document assisting a doctor to do necessary treatment either pre-diagnosis or post diagnosis.
Therefore, a mere lab report cannot be accepted in the matter of leave sanction on medical grounds.
