Can I Negotiate My Notice Period with a 2-Month Buyout and 1-Month Notice? Seeking Advice!

guruttam
I have been with this startup company for 5 years and have received a job offer from a new company. I informed the new company that I have a 3-month notice period with little chance of a buyout. However, they have agreed to a 1-month joining time in the offer letter and a 2-month buyout option from the new company. Previously, there was a buyout provision with my current company, but with the latest update in the notice period, there is now a "SUBJECT TO MANAGEMENT APPROVAL" clause—which I assume means the old buyout still holds.

The approved communication, if it has taken place, has not been conveyed to me, anyone in the office, or anywhere in writing, email, or portal.

Can I request the management to release me with a 2-month buyout and a 1-month notice serving period? I am attaching a copy of the revised policy.

Please advise as soon as possible.

Hi, you need to check with your employer about the feasibility of paying a 2-month notice and serving a one-month notice. It depends on many criteria such as your association with the company, your role and responsibilities, and whether your employer will be able to find a replacement within a short time frame.

Request this information from your employer and find out. However, ensure that you don't commit to any date with your new employer before it is officially confirmed by your current employer.
