Gratuity Payment for employees transferred abroad without completing 5 years of service

What is the market practice of paying Gratuity / ex-gratia, when an employee is transferred from India to another country before completing 5 years of service. Whether companies pay ex-gratia for the number of years served in lieu of Gratuity, what is the minimum years of service required / practice
