Construction Work Hours Extended to 7:30 PM: Is This Legal? Seeking Clarification

a-m-kulkarni
Hi, I am working in a construction company. Previously, our hours were 8:30 am to 6:00 pm; now, the site in charge has made 7:30 pm mandatory. Would anyone clarify the timing in the construction industry as per the law?

As per the law, you cannot ask an employee to work for more than 8 hours in a day. At the same time, if the break in between is longer due to scorching sun/weather conditions, you can extend it so that the spread, including the intervals, does not exceed 10 hours and 30 minutes.

As per the Act, the actual working hours are 8 hours, excluding rest periods and lunch. Additionally, employees shall be provided with weekly holidays. Any hours worked exceeding 8 hours per day or 48 hours per week will attract overtime.
