Understanding Telangana's Leave Policy: Is 12 Days the Maximum or Minimum for Sick and Casual Leave?

vksamhith
According to the Telangana Shops and Establishments Act, every employee in any establishment shall be entitled, during their first twelve months of continuous service and during every subsequent twelve months of service,

(a) to leave with wages for a period not exceeding twelve days on the ground of any sickness or accident, and

(b) to casual leave with wages for a period not exceeding twelve days on any reasonable ground.

When it states "Not exceeding," does it mean a maximum of 12 days for sick leave and a maximum of 12 days for casual leave? The wording is confusing as it almost suggests we can give less than 12 days.

Hi, it is 12 days compulsory and not less than 12 days.

Hi, thank you very much for the quick response. We are a ten-member team currently structuring our leave policy. We work five days a week, with 8 hours of work and a 1-hour break. Could you suggest an ideal way to structure CL, EL, and SL that benefits both the company and the team members?

Thank you very much in advance.

Hi, The ideal way to structure the leave policy is to follow leave rules as per the Shops and Establishment Act, regardless of whether it is a 5 or 6-day work week.

I think "not exceeding here" means the employee can use up to 12 days, but it's not compulsory for him to use those days. Can you provide the relevant section number?
