Confused About EPS Contribution Rejection? Here's How to Resolve Your Claim Issue

hamsheena-kv
I have worked with company X for 9 months. Since I have been jobless for more than 2 months, I have submitted Form 19 for full settlement. However, my claim was rejected with the reason stated as "Please clarify why EPS contribution was not remitted (no previous service)." I do not have an EPS account, and my employer's contribution does not show any pension contribution either.

What do I need to do for the claim to be successful? Kindly let me know.

It is a general clarification that the EPFO seeks nowadays. You can submit a reply stating that your PF qualifying salary was above Rs 15,000 at the time of joining company X. Before joining company X, you did not work anywhere or have PF membership with earlier companies. Hence, company X did not contribute to your Pension Fund but only contributed the employer's share of 12% to your PF. This response should be convincing.

You can do it offline by meeting the concerned EPF office.

Can anyone please explain what they are seeking and provide steps to connect with them and clarify?

Understanding Employer Contributions to Pension Fund

The issue is that when you joined your first company, you might have had less than Rs. 15,000 as PF qualifying salary. Then your employer should have contributed to the Pension Fund. Your second employer should also have followed the same and contributed to the Pension Fund as well. Now, the employer has to redo the contributions, bifurcate the 12% paid by them as 8.33% to the Pension Fund and 3.67% to PF, and resubmit the ECR. The member cannot do it. You should approach the employer only and get it done.
