Navigating Contract Labour Act: Where to Get Your License and Who to Contact?

hr.sil@teabox.com
As an employer, we need to register our organization under the Contract Labour Act because we will have 15 contract laborers working with us starting next month. Could you please suggest which office we should approach for the contract labor license? Who is the licensing officer responsible for contract laborers?

Thank you.
Indrajeets
ALC (Assistant Labor Commissioner) or DLC (Deputy Labor Commissioner)

Normally, the Assistant Commissioner of Labour of the area is the licensing officer under the CLA. You may check with the office of the Commissioner of Labour.

The office whose signature is on the CLR & A registration of your establishment is the authority to issue a license for the contractor. Hope you got the answer. In general, the DLO is the authority to issue a license.

Normally, the Assistant Labour Commissioner or Deputy Labour Commissioner acts as the licensing authority. However, in some places, even an Assistant Labour Officer can also become the licensing authority.

This has to be notified by the State Labour Commissioner or Regional Labour Commissioner, as the case may be. In most cases, the Assistant Labour Commissioner has been notified by state commissioners.

Thanks and regards,

Dear HR, The licensing authority is determined by the industry classification. If your industry falls under the purview of the Central Ministry, you must register with the Assistant Labour Commissioner (C) or alternatively with the Deputy Labour Commissioner of the respective state. I assume your business manufactures tea boxes and thus falls under the jurisdiction of the State Licensing Authority.

Suresh
