Facing Visa Cost Issues After Early Resignation in UAE: What Are My Legal Options?

Anonymous.
Dear Sir/Madam, I really need your advice. I didn't complete my contract with my company, and now I have resigned with 7 months of work still remaining. My company has requested that my new employer cover the visa costs; otherwise, I will have to bear them. When I requested 20 days from my manager, he refused to sign and return my resignation letter, stating that he had only given me a 30-day notice period. Please advise me on what actions I can take according to UAE law.

Hi, Before completing the contract period, you are switching to another company in the Middle East, and hence your current employer is demanding reimbursement for the visa costs they incurred for you. Please review your employment terms and adhere to the separation clause outlined in your offer/appointment letter. It is also unclear whether you are on a tourist visa or a work visa. Based on my knowledge, some companies initially bring candidates on a tourist visa and then transition them to a work visa. It would be advisable to seek guidance from a local Employment Legal Advisor before making a decision. Due to the stringent rules in the Middle East, it is essential to proceed with caution to avoid potential restrictions on your future entry into the region.
