Understanding Sandwich Leave: Should It Apply When Employees Take Long Weekends?

clag-tech
Hello All, Please enlighten me on the following two queries related to the sandwich leave policy:

Query 1: If an employee takes leave on Thursday and Friday (including their weekend off on Saturday and Sunday) and returns to work on Monday.

Query 2: On 7 January 2023 (Saturday), which is considered a week off in our organization, the employee is on leave on 9 January 2023, i.e., Monday.

Shall we apply the sandwich leave policy in both of the above-mentioned queries? Please suggest and provide your valuable remarks.

Thanks & Regards,

HR

Hi, Query No. 1: Sandwich leave will not apply as the employee reported to the office for work on Monday. If the employee availed leave on Monday, then the days in between Saturday/Sunday should be adjusted against his leave balance. Query No. 2: If 7th Jan 2023 and 8th Jan 2023 are weekly off and the employee availed leave on 9th Jan 2023 alone, then sandwich leave will not be applicable. However, if the employee was on leave on 6th Jan 2023 (Friday), then the sandwich leave will be applicable.

In addition to what Mr. Lakshmi Narayan has said, I would like to state that the sandwich leave policy does not apply to a factory-type establishment.
