Employment Contracts in Healthcare: Is a 3-Year Term Legally Acceptable in Kerala?

Meera1990
Hi, I am working in the healthcare sector based in Kerala. I have the following queries regarding employment contracts:

Can a healthcare organization sign an employment contract for 3 years?

Is it legally accepted?

If we are issuing an employment contract, is the appointment order required?

Please share a sample contract with me so that I can refer to it.

Waiting for your reply.

Kind Regards,
Meera

Hi, An employment contract for 3 years is acceptable as long as both parties sign under mutually agreed terms and conditions. When issuing an employment contract letter, it should include all clauses such as the contract period, separation clause for both parties, and the lump sum amount to be paid with necessary deductions like Tax Deducted at Source, etc. In the presence of an employment contract letter, a separate appointment letter is not required. You may find various contract formats online that you can download and edit as per your requirements.

An appointment letter is nothing but a contract of employment. If you have a separate format for an employment contract, duplication is not necessary. There is nothing wrong with entering into a 3-year contract.

Obviously, the Contract of Employment or Offer of Appointment is drafted on the company's letterhead.
