Contractor Worker Pay in Steel Industry: CLRA Wages or Company Rates?

Y K BHOOSHI
Hi, If a worker is engaged through a contractor, should the salary be paid as per CLRA wages or as per scheduled employment? For example, should the salary of a contractor's worker in a steel manufacturing industry be paid as per CLRA wages or the applicable wages of the manufacturing company?

Thanks in advance.

Dear Bhooshi, The term 'contract labor' has been defined under the CLRA Act, 1970 as labor engaged in any industry through a contractor. Thus, it is a generic form of indirect labor engaged in any industry. Therefore, such contract labor should be paid the industry wages applicable to the same or similar class of direct labor employed in the industry only. In addition, there is no provision for wage fixation under the CLRA Act, 1970.
