Employee Faked COVID Positive Report for Paid Leave – What Should We Do Next?

Olivia-HR
Dear all, Please help to advise on the scenario we are facing with an employee. The employee is on probation and has forged a medical report claiming he tested COVID positive. Upon verification with the lab, we discovered the forgery. What should be the next step to be taken against this employee? He is requesting paid leave citing COVID as the reason for his two weeks' absence. Please advise.

Surely, your company must have a policy in place already for dealing with dishonesty by employees. If not, why not?

Hi, The act of forging a COVID report is a serious misconduct and warrants severe punishment, including termination of employment. Issue a Show Cause Notice Issue him a show cause notice as to why his services should not be terminated for his act of forging the COVID report. Get an explanation formally and then proceed with termination. Such employees might go to any extent and might misuse any company-related assets as well.
