Need Salary increment of an employee suggestion

Hi,

Is it good to increase salary 30% and rest allowance or only salary 40% or its the same.
Employee asking for 40% of increment , and he is a good performer .
Seniors were suggesting to increase it by 30% and rest as allowance .
Please suggest.

30% to 40% is good hike.. In general employees will expect increased take home after hike.. So based on your salary structure.. do which ever is best for employee
