is It Possible For An Employer To Extend Probation on completion of the date and not give in writing for extending?

My employer extended my probation on the day of completion of my six months, the contract says "you shall continue to remain as a probationer even on the completion of the said period until and unless you are confirmed in writing."
Would this mean the company could put me on probation for as long as it wishes? does this mean the company will not notify me in writing that my probation will be extended?

Hi,

As per the clause of your appointment order you continue to be on probation until you receive confirmation order in writing which is mutually agreed by you and employer. So if confirmation order not issued means it has to be construed as still you are on probation. Please discuss with your employer about the reason for extension of probation.

Being put on probation means the employee is being tested for suitability for a permanent posting. So unless and until the worth of the employee is to the satisfaction of the concerned authorities the services cannot be made permanent. So that is the issue.
The employer would like to keep the employee under probation till that satisfaction is reached. Though an outer limit of probation is not mentioned here, some organisations specify that the probation period can be extended only two or three times. If the employee is still unable to perform well, there is no option except to bring an end to the employment itself.
