Is It Fair for Tamil Nadu CBSE Schools to Cut Pay for Missing 15 August? Seeking Advice

I work in a Tamil Nadu CBSE-affiliated school and was absent on 15 August. The management deducted my salary, stating that in educational institutes, 15 August is a working day. As I am a fresher and unaware of the educational norms, please advise on this matter.
