Notice Period Confusion: When Does the Countdown Really Start After Resignation?

Richa87
Hello Connections, I have a doubt related to the notice period calculation.

Resignation date: 10th June
Resignation acceptance date: 28th June
Notice period as per the company rules is 2 months

What will be his last working day if he serves a 2-month notice?

1) From which date will the notice period be calculated? From the resignation date or the resignation acceptance date?

2) How much time should an employee wait for a response to his resignation email? If he doesn't get a response within a week, can the resignation be considered accepted?

3) If his resignation is not accepted, what are the exit formalities?

Hi, The notice period starts from the 10th of June. Resignation acceptance is only an internal process, and the notice period should be counted from the date of the resignation letter. If the resignation acceptance email is not received, please follow up with your HR.

Regarding point no. 3
No employer can hold an employee forcibly. The only action the employer can take is to discuss with the resigned employee and try to convince them to revoke the resignation letter.

Dear friend, Whenever an employee submits his/her resignation through an email or written hard copy, the notice period starts from the date of resignation. In your case, it is the 10th of June. It is immaterial whether it is accepted or not because resignation acceptance is only an internal process. It is the responsibility of HR/Management to issue the acceptance. If the resignation acceptance email is not received, please follow up with your HR.

Regarding point number 3, no employer can hold an employee forcibly against the will and wish of the employee. The only action the employer can take is to discuss with the resigned employee and try to convince him to revoke the resignation letter.
