Notice Period Dilemma: Is It Okay to Use Earned Leave Before You Leave?

pratham-dhanawade
Can I take EL while serving a notice period? As an HR professional, it's essential to consider the company's policies and regulations regarding taking earned leave during a notice period. Generally, organizations have specific guidelines on utilizing accrued leave during this period. I recommend reviewing the employee handbook or consulting with the HR department to understand the rules and procedures in place. This will ensure compliance with company policies and provide clarity on the matter.

Hi, Leaving the specific Act aside, in general, the notice period is meant for handing over/completing your responsibilities with the existing employer, depending on your role and responsibilities. Hence, most companies restrict leave during the notice period. However, if you have any justifying reason for your leave, on sickness/emergency grounds, you may avail it after prior discussion with the employer. Most employers tend to extend the notice period to match your leave days.

Provided a smooth handover of responsibilities and orientation for the new incumbent/substitute, availing any kind of leave should be permissible during the notice period. If the presence of the staff is required fully for the entire notice period, then there should be the option for encashing the unavailed earned leave at credit.

Kindly be guided accordingly.

Dear, An already valid reply has been given by a society member. It is also your moral responsibility to hand over and complete all your pending work when leaving a company and to create good relations. Don't only look out for your own benefits.
