Dear Colleague,
Many service organizations have a system of working only Monday to Friday, and some have an alternate Saturday off system already. If it is a manufacturing or continuous process industry, then you need to give deep thought before introducing such a system of 2 Saturdays off.
If you are convinced about the productivity vs. cost-saving aspect and still want to go for an alternate Saturday holiday system, then you may place a note to the management on merits and demerits, both documented, and what is the recommendation considering the overall advantages.
Cost Advantages
1. You may work out the cost of facilities—food and beverages, electricity, transport arrangements, office administration cost, lift usage cost, utilities cost, and so on for the 2 Saturdays—and multiply for the month and year to project in a good manner.
2. What are the impacts on work-life balance so that the intangible cost of attrition and replacement cost and its impact?
3. How the mobile usage, telephone, internet, IT expenses on these days off and how it impacts.
4. The manpower that works for these 2 days like office attendants, drivers, staff who are supporting in the administration and their wages for these days.
5. The reduction in logistics cost for all employees.
6. Stock movement cost and dispatch section cost reduction as bulk dispatch can be done on Monday if the business allows it.
These are a few thoughts on which you may build further based on your model of business.
