Hi, in 2020, a company committed to providing a retention bonus, which they planned to roll out on a quarterly basis. The first part was provided in April 2020, but after that, they did not provide it consistently. After numerous email communications with HR and higher management, they started to provide the remaining amount in 2021. I resigned from that company in September 2021, and during the full and final settlement, the company requested the return of all the retention bonuses (1.2 L) that were committed in 2020.
When I discussed this issue with HR, I highlighted that the payout was initially planned for 2020. She acknowledged the miscommunication and began working on resolving the matter. However, today, I received a "Legal Notice of Demand" to repay the entire amount.
Could you please advise me on how to address this situation?
