Confused About Missing EPS Funds After Merging with EPF? Let's Figure It Out Together

Hi, my previous employer had deducted EPS (when I had a basic salary of more than 15,000/-), which was wrong. Because of that, I was not able to merge my old PF with the new PF.

I requested them to submit a revised Form 3A to rectify the error. They did that, and after that, I could merge my old PF account with a new PF account.

However, the previous employer's EPS money is nowhere to be seen in the recent passbook. I am pretty sure that the previous employer merged the EPS into EPF; otherwise, I wouldn't have been able to merge the old PF with the new PF. Since EPS was merged into the EPF, should it not show in the new employer's passbook? Any help is much appreciated.

EPS and EPF contributions are indeed two separate components, and while they are often lumped together as part of the overall PF contribution, they are maintained separately in the records. The EPS portion of your contribution doesn't show up in the PF passbook because it's not part of the PF corpus. It's meant for pension purposes and goes into a separate account maintained by the EPFO.

Here's how you can check your EPS balance:

1. Visit the EPFO's Member e-Sewa portal.
2. Log in using your UAN and password.
3. Click on the 'View' tab and select 'Service History'.
4. You will find your entire service history here, including the period of service, the employer's name, and the EPS wage.

While you cannot see the EPS amount directly, it's calculated based on the number of years of service and the last drawn salary.

Now, let's talk about the merging of accounts. When you merge your old PF account with a new one, only the EPF amount gets transferred. The EPS amount remains with the old account, but it's not lost. When it comes to pension, all your years of service (with all employers) are considered, even if the accounts are not merged.

So, if your EPS has been deducted wrongly, and your employer has rectified it with the revised Form 3A, it should be corrected in the EPFO records.

If you still have doubts, you can raise a grievance on the EPFO's grievance portal. Here's how:

1. Visit the EPF Grievance Management System.
2. Click on 'Register Grievance'.
