Worried About Joining a New Job? Previous Company Won't Update My Exit Date in PF! Can Anyone Help?

I was working in a company for 5 months after graduating from college. The environment wasn't good, stressful, and a lot of pressure was put on me even though I was a fresher. After bearing it for 5 months, I quit the company in Dec '21 and informed HR. She accepted it but later told me I have to pay the bond amount. I explained that I couldn't afford to pay the amount as I needed my earnings to support my family.

I told her about my condition, but she still wouldn't accept it and blocked me from all forms of communication. In Jan '22, I got an offer from another company (mass recruiting ones) and I have provided all my details to them. My question is, will my joining be blocked as my previous company has not updated my date of exit in PF? Even though I requested them to update it, they wouldn't respond. I have disclosed my work history to my current company, but they haven't responded. Can anyone please advise me about this situation?

1. Whatever the reason, you have left the organization without following the proper exit process. You have breached the contract with your employer, and they will likely ask for the bond amount. It's better not to enter into such employment. Since you have already done so, you should request HR's support. You mentioned that HR is not responding. Try visiting them in person at the office and seek their support. If you have a good rapport with your reporting manager, seek their intervention.

2. If you have secured a job in an MNC, they will definitely conduct a background verification (BGV). Since you have already disclosed your previous employment to your new employer, be prepared with answers for leaving your previous employment abruptly.

3. There is a chance that your previous employer may share negative remarks about your employment with them if asked for BGV.

4. Regarding the exit date in PF, you need to take the support of HR. You may also update the exit date, but there is a definite chance of making a wrong entry, which may further complicate PF transfer and withdrawal. So, it's better to get in touch with your ex-employer and resolve it smoothly.

My main concern is if the date of exit isn't marked in PF, will my joining be blocked by my current employer? I am joining this company as a fresher, so no previous experience is required. You have violated a bond and then left without notice (I assume). Are you hoping the HR of the previous company will help, assist, or in any way be included to do something for your benefit?

Anyway, you can log into your PF account and file your exit information on your own. You no longer need to depend on your previous company to do it.

However, be aware that as soon as your new company learns you already have an existing PF account, they will want to know the details of your employment and will not consider you a fresher as such. They may conduct a background verification (BGV) and call the previous company to know about your employment status or may ask you for your relieving letter.

Potential Issues with PF Membership in a New Organization

There is a strong possibility of getting caught as you are already a member of the PF. In the new organization, if they make you a member, there will be a clash since your exit date is not recorded by the previous employer. Even if they treat you as an exempted employee (i.e., drawing a salary of more than Rs. 15,000/- per month), the PF Inspector can verify your account details with your Aadhar Card.
