How Can We Tackle Labor Shortages in Our R&D Unit with Seasonal Projects?

Hello Team, we are in the manufacturing sector and are registered under the Factories Act.

Labor Shortage in R&D Unit

We have an R&D unit for which we hire 5 to 10 laborers on a contract basis. We face many problems like a shortage of manpower because our projects are non-continuous (seasonal requirement). Can someone suggest ideas to overcome this labor shortage?

Hiring Probationers or Trainees

Also, I have come to know that we can hire a few individuals as probationers or trainees, in which case we are not required to pay PF or ESI. I need guidance on this issue.

Fixed Term Appointment (FTA)

You have the option to appoint on a 'Fixed Term Appointment' (FTA) basis, and the appointment automatically lapses after the period is over.

Salary Considerations for Freshers

Keep the freshers on a salary of above Rs. 21,000/- per month so that both PF and ESI coverage are automatically included. Keeping contract labor or appointing on probation or training is not going to help with the statutory liability.
