Is a PGDLL Necessary After MSW for a Career as a Labour Welfare Officer?

meeraj1
Hi, I'm Meeraj. I'm now in my final year of MSW (HR specialization) at SRMVCAS, Coimbatore, Tamil Nadu. Should I further study PGDLL to become a Labour Welfare Officer?

If needed, please suggest whether to pursue it through regular or distance education.

Do employers all over India and globally consider the PGDLL course taken through distance education?

Dear Colleague,

Recognized Course for Labour Welfare Officer in Tamil Nadu

A two-year full-time MSW with Personnel Management, Labour Welfare, and Industrial Relations, which is a Master's Program offered by the University and recognized by UGC, is a recognized course for becoming a Labour Welfare Officer in Tamil Nadu. It is more than sufficient for entry into the HR/Labour Welfare/IR field. Each State Government issues notifications separately for their state, recognizing courses for the appointment of a Welfare Officer under the provisions of the Factories Act 1948.

Personal Suggestions for Career Path

If you decide to work in the industry, first look for a job, maybe at an entry level, and take up a job on-campus or off-campus. When you are in a job, you may decide to do any course relevant to upgrade your skills and capabilities, and there are multiple courses available which you can decide on later. After maybe one year, when you understand your field clearly, you may decide to join courses that are future-oriented like Data Science, Data Analytics, Certification Courses on HR, IR, etc., from any renowned institute like IIM/Symbiosis, etc. Kindly do not waste money by joining courses that are not practice-oriented. You may also upgrade yourself in HR Automation/Software related to HR and update your skills now if possible.

If you decide to take up teaching as your profession, then register for your Ph.D. in an HR-related subject or in Social Work itself, which will have a lot of further scope.
