Understanding EPF Enrollment: Are You a New or Existing Member with a Previous UAN?

T.Thirumurugan
Dear Sir/Madam,

If an employee has a UAN from their previous employment and their EPF and EPS accounts are settled on the date of joining the new establishment, then:

(i) Are they a new EPF/EPS member in the new employment? Will they have the option to enroll in the EPF scheme if their EPF wages are 15,001 or more?

OR

(ii) Are they an existing EPF/EPS member in the new employment? Will they be compulsorily enrolled in the EPF scheme if their EPF wages are 15,001 or more?

Please do the needful.

Thanks & Regards,

He should be considered a new employee; therefore, his PF will be optional (except for status) if his salary is above 15,000 on the date of joining.

Note, the rule states that he has no existing PF account. This was established before the UAN came into effect. So, even though he has an account, since it is settled, it is the same as him not having a PF account.
