Navigating Post-Pandemic Business: Is a 2-Year Contract with 6-Month Probation Legal?

SandyMarine
Good Day! I am a Mumbai-based micro enterprise in marine repairs, just restarting after the pandemic and a second bout of cancer. Kindly advise on the following:

1. What area would constitute as "outstation"?

2. Currently, I have no employees on rolls and want to keep all staff on "contract" for 2 years with a probationary period of 6 months. Is that legally acceptable?

Thanks in advance.

You can consider the area beyond the Mumbai Municipality Corporation (Urban Mumbai) as outstation. In general, a remote or outlying station is a location that is significantly far from your place, cannot be reached by a call, and takes a substantial time to reach, typically over 6 hours.

You can keep all staff on "Contract" for 2 years with a probationary period of 6 months without legal issues, but the terms of appointment should be well defined and without ambiguity.
