Notice Period (NP) Extension of Senior Employees - Are there any legal obligations?

Dear Members, Hope you and your family are doing good in health despite the Covid-19 pandemic across the country.

In context to the title, could you all share your thoughts on this? Management wants to extend the NP especially for Sr.Manager, AVP, VP, Sr. VP designated employees + who completed 15+ years in the organization. At present, their NP is of '1 month' , mentioned in the Appointment letter.

1> Can we extend NP from 1 month to 3 months. Are there any legal obligations?

My Views: If we need to do, we can mention the same along with the promotion/increment letter and get the consent from an employee in writing by taking the acknowledgment of the letter.
