Seeking Help: How to Claim My Late Dad's EPS Benefits with Just His EPF Number?

Suraj_Jadhav
My dad passed away recently due to COVID at the age of 53. He had his own business running. Before starting his business, he was employed at Press Trust of India, Mumbai. There, along with PF, he had made a contribution to the EPS scheme. I am seeking details such as the amount and how to claim it. Given the financial urgency facing my family, obtaining this information is crucial. I attempted to search through my dad's files, but all I found was the EPF number. Unfortunately, I am unsure how to proceed with it. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

Contacting PTI for PF and EPS Details

As your dad was with PTI in the Mumbai office, please contact PTI along with the documents you have to know the status of your dad's PF and EPS accounts. It is important to know how many years your dad was in the job, when he left the job, whether any settlement was done by your dad, etc. These pieces of information are essential before the settlement of accounts.

You need not search for any information; you should approach the employer (Press Trust of India). They will provide you with all the details (PF No., Date of joining, required PF Forms, etc.). Please prepare the following basic documents:

1. Death Certificate
2. Family details
3. ID Proofs of all family members (Aadhar)
4. Bank details of the Nominee (whoever is eligible for pension)
5. Photos
6. Aadhar Card of your father

The attached PPT may help you (I got it from this forum itself).

Details of Employment and Contribution

As per the post, the person was:

a) A businessman at present

b) An ex-employee of PTI Mumbai (directly or through contractor payroll, it is not known)

c) The contribution period is also not known.

There is no specific date or year mentioned for joining and leaving the service (which can be easily traced through the personal bank account of the deceased, as the salary credits would reflect the summary at a glance).

Steps to Obtain Employment Summary

In such a situation, the summary can be provided by the employer (claimed to be PTI). After receiving the summary, it may be checked and cross-referenced with PF to see if there is any balance remaining in accounts to be claimed by the nominee. Only then can the procedural formalities take place, as most people withdraw their deposit balance after leaving the job.
