Worried About Your CIBIL Score of 680 Affecting Your New Job in Bangalore? Let's Discuss!

I'm selected with an IT company in Bangalore, and they are also checking/verifying credit history before my joining. However, my CIBIL score is showing 680 at this time because a few months ago I skipped paying credit card bills, resulting in a reduction of my CIBIL score to 680. Is this a good score, or will it pose a problem for my joining? Today, I have paid all credit card bills, and everything is cleared. My credit card utilization is now zero. However, I am aware that it will take a few months for these changes to reflect in CIBIL's score. Please suggest.

I think the question here pertains to the "use" of the CIBIL score in recruitment. It is not always correct to dismiss a question just because it doesn't fall within your ambit. In fact, by answering so dismissively, you halt any discussion that can be had on a topic.

To answer the question, the fact that you are worried about your CIBIL score puts you in the category of a person who is at least trying to be more financially careful. However, if it is really worrying you, you should reach out to the company and address the issue yourself. Perhaps even tell them about the missed payment and show proof of payments made. Such behavior will only strengthen the display of good character.

About the use of CIBIL score in recruitment

I think it makes a lot of sense as it is a verified source of information about the candidate's financial habits.

Please remain friendly and kind (focus on adding value/resources/references rather than speculations or judgment).

Why Would an IT Company Check CIBIL Scores?

I do not know why an IT company would check the CIBIL scores of a person applying for a job. Are you sure that is the case?

Who Can Check Credit Scores?

Secondly, other than the person themselves, only banks and financial institutions are allowed to check the credit scores of any individual. Have you provided the credit report, or are they obtaining it independently?

Impact of Covid Moratorium on CIBIL Scores

While I am unsure of the benchmark used in your new company, I was under the impression that CIBIL was instructed not to mark defaulters for cards and loans during the Covid Moratorium period. Are you certain your score dropped due to that?
