Background Check Issue: How Can I Prove My Past Employment Without Form 16 or Bank Statements?

I have worked in four companies and recently joined my fifth. They are unable to verify my second company and have placed me in amber status. They have requested a bank statement and Form 16. Unfortunately, I have not collected Form 16 from my employer, and I also don't have a bank statement as that account has been closed. Can you please tell me what steps the company can take regarding my employment?

Verification of Employment Background

If you are otherwise suitable for the fifth company, it can discount the experience of the second company if it is not substantial. In case you have retained some correspondence or other communication like office orders from the second company, it can be relied upon by your fifth company to verify your employment background. If the second company is still in existence and functioning, you could request them to issue an experience certificate or verify the position when referred to them.

Obtaining Bank Statements for Closed Accounts

The bank account may have been closed, but you must have the bank statements, right? Also, unless the account is very old, the bank will still be willing to give you a copy of the statements if you approach them. They do not refuse statements for closed bank accounts.

There is no restriction; a person can join as many companies as they wish and should keep records of their employment. HR becomes suspicious, particularly when they encounter a candidate with multiple employments within a short span of service. Therefore, they want to know more about such a candidate by delving deeper.

Obtaining Closed Bank Account Statements

You can obtain the detailed statement of your closed bank account from the bank. There is no major issue in getting the account statement. This is a strength, as I managed to get a bank statement from a local branch for an account that was closed 7 years ago, even though I was away from the home branch.
