Seeking Guidance on Defamation and Career Impact
I am a mid-management professional working in an MNC as a manager, representing a department. I resigned from my old organization in December 2020, and my notice period was three months. After resigning on the 30th of December 2020, they withheld my December salary and did not pay my January salary. They also did not acknowledge my resignation or provide any acceptance until 70 days later when they finally confirmed it.
Despite numerous requests and attempts at contact through email and verbally, they only responded by shouting at me, with no progress. Consequently, I decided to escalate my concerns within the corporate group. Following this communication, they released my salary but in installments.
During this period, my wife was expecting a baby, and I had significant EMIs to cover, leading me to take out a personal loan to support my family. Despite communicating these challenges, they showed no sympathy and continued to mistreat me, often citing my outsider status (working in Maharashtra but originally from Uttar Pradesh).
After numerous complaints and interventions (including contacting labor offices), they finally settled all outstanding payments, and I completed all necessary formalities before leaving.
Months later, when I requested my relieving letter, they initially refused. After persistent requests, they provided one but with negative remarks stating that I was unprofessional, did not fulfill my duties properly during the notice period, and was involved in inventory-related issues. Although my new organization did not require this letter and I had informed them of the situation, I accepted it.
Now, after six months, they sent a letter to my current organization making disparaging remarks about me without revealing the author's identity. I am deeply troubled by this situation. I have evidence, including emails and meeting recordings, proving that I did not engage in any misconduct. Despite this, I am considering taking legal action against defamation and the potential harm to my career.
I seek guidance on available resources and support from group members.
Regards,
