Hi,
When an employee takes leave on prefix & suffix of week off, then the week off will also be considered as leave. If a person takes leave on saturday and joins back on monday, then he can apply for 1 day leave.

Hi Js Negi
For short leaves like Casual leave / Medical leave. Sunday is not counted.
For longer leaves like Earned leave Sundays are counted if it falls in between the leave period.
Please check your company leave rule book. They must have made it. Else speak to your management now and Make one after consulting some friends.
# No need to panic. These minor issues can be sorted out after consultation.

Hi JS Negi,
Sunday should be considered as leave, if he had applied sat and mon as sick leave.
The way, he has applied for leave, it is ok.
Further, it depends on your company policy and how flexible is your company considering employee leaves.

Hai,
Generally, according to the leave rules of majority of the companies, Casual Leaves cannot be clubbed with Sick Leaves. Also please check, according to your leave rules, whether intervening holidays or weekly offs are counted as leaves or not. If not, his leave days will be actual days on which he was on leave, not counting the intervening Weekly Offs or Holidays.
The thumb rule is casual leaves cannot be clubbed with Sick Leaves or Previlige/Earned Leaves at any given point of time. You can ask the employee to transform all the leaves to Sick Leave.

Hi Phanikanth,
I believe in today's scenario there is no thumb rule, when company's are promoting work from home culture.
One of my friend was in IT service company and he clubbed his earned and casual leave for going home. His manager asked him to do so as he didn't have good balance of earned leave.
In my company, I can work on weekend and take leave in lieu of that in coming days. I can do this though I have good leave balance and there is no urgent requirement to finish the work.
Further, my company don't maintain the attendance record for employees.
Its more of a trust relationship.
So, its all about how flexible you are and how much you wanna follow the traditional ways.

Deepak

Hai Deepak,
Its really nice to see your reply. I had given my comments based on the querry raised, based on the practices which majority of the Manufacturing units are following and I wanted to give a tailor made reply to the specific question. I also consent with your views, as today's culture is flexible.

Hi Negi
Leaves depend on the how your company HR policies are framed; ideally in some organizations leaves from Friday to Sunday will be counted as 3 days leave, but few organizations do not count satuday and Sunday as leaves availed because weekends are considered to be non - working days.
Therefore the employee can take 2 days as sick leave and Friday as casual leave
