Understanding the Gratuity Act: Application for Payment

Under the Gratuity Act, if an employee passes away, their nominee must make an application for the payment of gratuity and submit Form J. In Form J, there is a section for the total period of service of the employee that needs to be filled out. Does the total period of service include future service (i.e., until retirement), or does it mean from the date of joining to the date of death? Which is correct?

Multiple Nominees and Form Submission

If an employee has nominated more than one nominee, is it necessary to collect two separate forms (Form J) or not?

The end date has to be the retirement date or the date of death, whichever is earlier. If the employee has expired immediately after retirement before the claim of gratuity is settled, the nominees can claim gratuity till retirement. Both the nominees can sign in one form or even in separate forms; it doesn't matter.
