Facing Pressure to Serve Notice Despite Mental Health Struggles: What Are My Options?

yardstick
I joined a company 3 months ago, but things didn't work out well. When I resigned, my manager agreed to an early release and approved my resignation request for the same day. I also received an email from the HR team regarding my last working day. However, they suddenly reversed their decision and demanded that I serve a 3-month notice period, despite me explaining that I was leaving due to my depression and inability to contribute to work. Now, they have decided to overload me with more work for the next 3 months and warned that any failures will result in disciplinary action.

Due to my mental health condition, I prioritized my well-being and informed my manager and HR via email that I am leaving the organization, returning all company assets. I am concerned about potential consequences for leaving without completing the notice period. What actions can they take for my absence? I seek advice on handling this situation. In future job applications, I prefer not to include this 3-month experience.

Please advise on the best course of action.

Negotiating Notice Period Waiver

Better negotiate with the employer to waive the entire notice period or a part thereof and permit you to buy out the remaining to make your exit formal and peaceful. Otherwise, the employer can initiate disciplinary action against you on the charge of unauthorized absence or abscondence and terminate your services. Certainly, it will affect your future employment. It would not be easy for you to hide these things.
