What should be the exit date for an employee who expired on duty 24.02.2018.
Also can you pls explain if his contribution on ecr is not seen for 24 days of feb as employer did not included his name in contribution for feb2018.
Can this epf amount along with edli contribution be paid on later date.
As the claim is yet pending to be filed.
Madhu.T.K
You may exit him on 25th February 2018. If you had not included him in the February ECR, the dependents will not get EDLi benefits because his death could no be taken as death while in service.

Madhu sir,
The fact is the employee expired on duty in office on 24 feb2018.
But employer didnt exit him so far, and ecr in feb was not raised or its missed by the employer by mistake, as the pyment was made their family in cash for that month.
Is there any way to help the employee.
Madhu.T.K
It will involve a lot of issues. You will have to establish that the death occurred during service. The issue was discussed in this thread earlier. Please connect to that also.

@Bijay

EPFO has to consider the claim of their existing members only, i.e they have to check the ECR filed by the employer for the continuity of service, till the date of death , it might have non contributory periods (NCP) , but if the name is missing from ECR, then department set the claim aside, as it is deemed that the employee was not in payroll in the specific month of incident. Hence not a member of EPF also as per the ECR submitted by the employer,

If employer would be able to file the ECR and pay contribution for that employee for the specific month ( a single person ECR can be filed also, with some restriction of time frame) then it may get appeal able and worth consideration by RO

Unless the compliance is done from employer side, postmortem report and FIT is just a proof of death, not the epfo membership

Dear Experts,

I believe Death on service/job means Death on roll (whether getting salary or on Loss of Pay days).
Hence if an employee dies on job( getting pay or LWP) say on 10 of any month, he should be considered on job till 10, though all 10 days may be loss of pay days.
If you put 10 as exit date, PF authority should not reject the claim.

Secondly no EDLI contribution is paid if employee does not earn any salary.
