Mandatorily Enabling Mobile Number and Bank Account details of an Insured Person while registering an employee with effect from 1st July, 2020

Greetings for the day. Your attention is invited to ESIC Headquarters, Panchdeep Building, C.I.G. Marg, New Delhi Circular No. I-11/13/04/2020-ICT dated 29th June 2020 (copy enclosed for ready reference).

Guidelines for Registering a New Employee Under ESI

The Department has issued detailed guidelines for registering a new employee under the ESI, wherein the Corporation has made it compulsory to provide Mobile Number and Bank Account details with IFSC Code and MICR code while registering a new employee. By providing the above information, the Corporation will be in a better position to provide efficient and effective services to the Insured Person and the members of his/her family.

Information Required for New and Existing Employees

As such, you are requested to kindly provide us the details of Mobile Number, and Bank Account details (with IFSC and MICR Code) of newly appointed employees invariably without fail in the future. You are also requested to provide the information regarding all the existing employees too so that we can upload the same to the ESI site as and when the Corporation asks for it. It is further emphasized that henceforth no new employees can be registered under the ESI without Mobile Number and Bank Account details.

Additional Requirements for Employers

Additionally, the employer needs to scan and upload an attested cancelled cheque leaflet issued by the Bank or the pages attested copy of (with stamp and signature of the Employer) the front page of the passbook showing the name of the Account Holder, Bank Name, Bank Branch, and IFSC and MICR Code.

I would like to supplement the above post by mentioning that the decision of ESI to register mobile numbers and bank accounts of IPs applies not only to new IPs but also to existing IPs.

Now, there is no need to enter the MICR number or enclose a scanned copy of the bank. Only input the IFSC code and bank account number of the employee.
