Background Verification Challenge: How Should HR Handle Missing Info from Previous Employers?

nidhi-raval1
I am an HR professional at an IT company. Background verification is crucial for us. However, what should we do if we are unable to obtain background verification from an employee's previous company? What steps can be taken in such a scenario?

The purpose of Background Verification (BGV) is to know and ascertain personal traits, behavior at work, relationships with superiors, peers, and subordinates, and many other factors. These can best be assessed about an employee by their previous employer (with whom they might have spent years), and this assessment helps the new employer to further groom the employee for taking on higher responsibilities. Hence, BGV is an important process in the matter of recruitment and selection.

If I understand your question correctly, is your question:

A. No response to emails or queries

There is no response to your emails or query about the employment of a candidate previously working with them but currently working with your organization.

B. Employer is untraceable or shut down

The employer is untraceable or shut down, so you are unable to get in touch with them.

For both cases, I suggest getting back to your candidate and asking them to submit email IDs, telephone numbers, or contact details of their previous managers, colleagues, clients, or vendors.
