Draft format to ask employee to submit resignation instead giving employee the termination letter

Hello All,

I'm working as an HR generalist in a proprietary firm. There is an employee who has been working for the company for more than 2.5 years. She took leave for more than one month during which she stated she was unwell and going to her hometown for 10-12 days. After reviewing the current situation, management has decided to terminate her employment.

As a long-standing employee, I suggested to management that they ask the employee to submit her resignation instead of issuing a termination letter.

Please assist me with drafting a formal request to the employee for her resignation.

Resignation is a voluntary act by an individual or employee. Asking an employee to submit their resignation is an indirect termination without following the steps of natural justice. The best approach would be to verbally request the employee to resign if the circumstances are severe. It appears that going on leave may be used as an excuse to initiate a thought process of seeking voluntary resignation.
