Are Employees Covered by ESIC Eligible for Benefits During Lockdown Without Pay?

Please guide on whether employees covered under ESIC will receive any benefits during the lockdown period when companies are not paying them their salaries (full/half/nil).

So far as I know, ESI being an unemployment insurance benefit due to the absence of the subscriber/employee caused by sickness/accident, I don't think that loss of employment due to any other reason can be covered by it.

Sir, please confirm if COVID-19 is covered under ESIC. Can an ESI member suffering from COVID-19 get medical benefits as per his/her eligibility?

Yes, employees (insured persons) shall be eligible to receive medical benefits from ESI.
