Understanding Labor Law: What's the Minimum Number of Holidays a Company Must Offer?

As per labor law, how many minimum number of days should a company declare holidays? I am aware that the maximum number is left to the interest of the company. Would be grateful for your inputs.

I would also like to know, as per the Shop and Establishment Act, what is the minimum number of holidays one can give to its employees in Delhi? It would be great if any one of you could kindly forward a list of holidays for the year 2008 of an insurance company.

The number of holidays are given as per the standing order applicable to you. So, what does your standing order say about holidays? Generally, the company gives 7 or 9 holidays as per their standing order.

I would like to know, as per the Shop and Establishment Act, what is the minimum number of holidays one can give to its employees in Delhi and other states in India. Although each state issues a notification to this effect, my concern is categorizing holidays as national, mandatory in states, and the rest as per the employer's wish.

It would be great if any one of you could kindly forward the lists of holidays for the year 2009 for employees covered under the Shops and Establishment Act.

As per labor laws, the National and Festival Holiday Act of 1959 states that 9 days of holidays should be allowed. The employer has the right to increase it but not to decrease it.

It seems like you have not filled out Form V of the act. Please try to get it signed by the Labor Inspector.
