Leave Dilemma: Do Weekends Count as Leave Days When Taking Friday to Monday Off?

career-honeycomb
Dear Sir/Madam,

If an employee works till Thursday and applies for leave from Friday to Monday, are the weekly offs considered as part of the leave?

Thank you,
Nishelle

If it is PL/EL, then the intervening weekly off shall be counted as leave. If he applies CL, then you can exclude the weekly off.

Usually, this comes under the Sandwich rule. If that employee is absent throughout Friday to Monday, his weekly offs would be considered as leave. He should have been present either on Friday or Monday.

However, now companies are becoming a little more considerate. If an employee is on sick leave, you may consider excluding his weekly offs.

If the employee falls sick, only working days need to be counted as sick leave except for the weekly holiday (as no one can apply for sick leave prior to proceeding on leave).
