Navigating BOCW and Contract Labour Acts: Do We Need to Register for Our Subcontracted Project?

We have started a new real estate project and subcontracted it to another vendor. Do we need to take registration under the BOCW Act as well as the Contract Labour Regulation and Abolition Act? Our subcontractor has requested us to issue Form V after obtaining registration under the CLA Act. Please do the needful.

As per the BOCW Act, 1% cess on the total cost needs to be deposited with the department. What comprises the total cost as per the act? Do we need to pay cess on material purchases as well, which will form part of the total cost?

Yes, 1% cess is on all costs, including material. Only land cost is excluded. Thus, cess is payable on the total project cost less the land purchase value (if any).
